Roger and Angie's News October 2023

Lee Abbey Knowle West Community news

We welcomed Chris and Joanna to join our community on 30th September. Previously at Lee Abbey Devon, Chris and Joanna bring skills and experience, a passion for Jesus and a heart to learn, live and serve in Knowle West. We are excited to be building and growing together.

We hosted a small team from Burn 24/7 Europe (22-25 September) and enjoyed sharing time and Embers worship together. We were joined by local friends Dave and Jenny, who led the first part of the evening.

At the Cairn, our weekly Guitar club is back in full swing alongside Man Friday monthly, where the first hour is general chat, then a short excerpt from the Lumo gospel films is shown followed by interesting discussions. Sunday mornings we love sitting around the table and sharing worship, creativity, prayer and chats.

The Creative Encounter group is meeting monthly now. We enjoy bringing scripture meditation into our time and working with a connected theme.

Angie has found some support with Parent Buddies (listening support service for parents) and is finding ways to run it, alongside leading the community. We are using all of our volunteers now, as more referrals are coming in and we have a waiting list.

We have another garden work party next month and are looking forward to gleaning advice and ideas from Chris, who has much experience with gardening/landscaping.

Together4Bristol and Wider Bristol

On 9th November we have a gathering with the senior regional church leaders and our local church leaders here at Lee Abbey. We are keen to build missional unity among local church leaders and everyday Christians.

Since the summer Roger has been facilitating the Together4Bristol (T4B) spheres one day or so a week and is releasing others to rise up.

The Arts and Media spheres had a really good Storytellers gathering. The Media core group is now growing, has links to Christians in Media, with a first Bristol Media Hub gathering on 12th October.

Roger is preparing for the next sphere facilitators gathering (supper here at Lee Abbey) where we will be looking at a 5 Stages of Development model which charts the progress of each area from basic gathering and support to what fullness and sustainability look like.

Roger is running a pilot of the 'Reframe' course, which explores God's big story / biblical world-view earthed in the spheres of life. We started on October 10th with a meal and run monthly for 10 months with a mix of Zoom and in person gatherings.

The 100 Friends Appeal has received more sign ups which is encouraging as we continue to seek finance to cover the running of the T4B website.
